Veggie Garden Diaries #1

I figured it is well and truely time to take down a nice new glossy diary from the shelf and begin to fill it to it’s brim with even more continous ramblings! So I said to myself: ’self, yo should write about a veggie patch.’ so I am; well the beginnings of one anyway…

The other day we bought a selection of herb punnets from bunnings and this week we are planning to move them from the yellow tub on the sink and into the soil. It’s really a herb garden at the moment, but as they say, from little things, big things grow! Now we have Mint, Thyme, Sage, Oregano, Parsley and…. STRAWBERRIES! So I’m very happy. As I said, it’s just the beginning, but I think we will be in for a very tasty Summer!

Bird Nest Diaries #6

I must confess that this is definitely not the happiest post I will write. We haven’t seen any sign of mother bird since 9am-ish Saturday morning, as of now that is 5 or so days ago. It’s a shame that it all turned out this way but hopefully mother bird has built a new nest somewhere else, preferably high up in a nice tree somewhere.

So we carefully close the back cover of our bird nest diaries and place it on the bookshelf, and look forward to opening a new page next spring and welcoming a new family of feathered friends back into our garden.

Bird Nest Diaries #5

Things have taken a slight turn, but were still hopeful.
Last night at about midnight, we heard a bit of a squawk and a rustle from the nest. It’s alright, the family are all ok, but we have a problem with the nest: The pile is drying out and therefore shrinking, so some of the branches supporting the nest are beginning to come unstuck and the nest is tilting.

This morning, while mother bird was out, we discovered that a small branch has also fallen over the nest along with a couple of leaves. This makes it hard for mum to sit on her eggs, so – without touching – we’ve used a twig to move the leaves and branch out of the way
so it’s all good again.

She came back for a while, but we haven’t seen her for a couple of hours, but we’re hoping for the best.

More eggs.

Just noticed that our little feathered friend has laid another speckled beauty. She’s got four children now, she’ll be busy in a few weeks.

Interestingly enough, no sign of Dadda bird; she seems to be a single parent. I feel a little sorry for her, she has to leave the nest whenever she goes to get food… but thankfully everything is still safe and well.

Bird Nest Diaries #3

We have discovered eggs.

Mamma bird has laid 3 gorgeous blue speckled eggs for us to marvel over. She’s even made a little blanket of white fluffy down for the eggs to nestle in.

So far everything is safe and we can’t wait for the eggs to hatch!!!

Out of worry for our little winged mum, we’ve put a little fence-type thing around the outside of the pile to protect the nest and it’s precious cargo. The cats are going to need to be certified acrobats to get around this thing. Mum can fly in and out with ease though.

Fingers crossed…

Birds fascinate me.

Today we discovered that a mother Brown Bird has made itself a nest in a pile of dry branches and leaves in the front yard. Not in a tree safe from cats and other creatures as you would expect, but about 30cm off the ground. It’s a sweet little thing and the nest it quite small. We’re just hoping that it stays safe from the neighbors cats….

bored

Though I know I shouldn`t be, the boredom goblins have crept in. This is the first time I`ve had internet for like a week and a half yet all i can think of after checking all the email accounts that i remember to check is to scab Newton Faulkner music off youtube and write this entry, how sad i am. No interesting emails by the way. I still haven`t been bothered to get msn, though i am told it is entirely necessary to lead a vaguely normal life, but then, it would be a rather mediocre life if i was normal anyhoo =P.

Oh well… i`m sure I`ll think of something to do by the end of the sentence……

Or not.

Newton is quite a good singer it seems. I can thank spicks and specks for that.

ahh well, til next time my evil minions.

cheers.

how (not) to freeze poker chips

DO NOT attempt to use the stainless steel ncontainer provided – it has an unexplained tendancy to leak, even with the lid on the bottom. Just don’t

DO NOT attempt to use a glass to big for the freezer. yes they do exist.

DO NOT attempt to use a festy container as your chips may never be conducive to play poker with EVER again.

DO use a container that you find in the back of the freezer that fits perfectly, contains no poisons or acids and is waterproof.

DO try this when you have failed to find anything else to do during a lunchbreak or english class

For best results, place in the staff room freezer and video tape reactions

Cheers all!
